The Commission to Study Ways to Improve the Financial Viability of the Racing Industry was formed in June 1997 (Chapter 750, Acts of 1997). The Commission will consider options to keep Maryland's racing industry financially viable against increased competition from race tracks in neighboring states. For each option considered, the Commission will assess its socioeconomic impact on the communities around Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore City.
