In July 1997, the Governor and the Speaker of the House of Delegates jointly created the Task Force on Education Funding Equity, Accountability, and Partnerships. The Task Force will review funding for Maryland schools and programs for school children from kindergarten through 12th grade. It will determine whether funding gaps or inequities exist, especially in programs for children from disadvantaged backgrounds or with limited English language skills. In addition, the Task Force is to develop accountability systems to ensure that school systems meet fiscal and educational standards.

A preliminary report to the Governor and House Speaker is due December 15, 1997, and a final report is due in 1998.
